After starting out in newspapers in the mid-'90s, she took a chance on travel writing when the Great Recession changed her career path. That gamble led her to rappel down a 90-foot ravine in Utah, surf in El Salvador and stay in the Cleveland home from A Christmas Story, among the adventures she's covered for TimeOut New York, Smithsonian, Forbes, Fodor's, Frommer's, BBC Travel, Atlas Obscura, Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor. Her travels have taken her as far as Fiji, and when at home, she divides her time between New England and New York City.
