What is The Pink Stuff?

Stardrops The Pink Stuff All-Purpose Miracle Cleaning Paste is the official title, but the cleaning product—a multi-purpose paste cleaner—is usually just called “The Pink Stuff.” It’s from the United Kingdom, but it has fans all over the globe. In fact, on Amazon alone, it has a whopping 220,000+ reviews and a star rating of 4.4, which is pretty exceptional any way you slice it. And if that’s not enough, The Pink Stuff has its own exceptionally popular social media accounts—on TikTok alone, it has over 351,000 followers and 2.1 million likes. That’s not just something that happens by accident.

The main listed ingredients in The Pink Stuff (and the special sauce that gives it such exceptional cleaning power) are benzisothiazolione, laurylamine dipropylendiamine, methylisothiazolinone, and perfume (which are mostly fancy names for baking soda, quartz, sodium silicate, and soap). However, the stuff is pretty much odorless—a nice change from noxious oven cleaners. To use it is pretty simple: rub it on surfaces with a sponge or microfiber towel, then rinse with water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly, or you’ll have a chalky residue. Complete the cleaning process by polishing the surface with a clean, dry cloth. And yes, The Pink Stuff is bright pink!

What can you clean with The Pink Stuff?

Stardrops states that the Pink Stuff can safely remove rust and discoloration from metal and hard surfaces. But always spot-test your surface in an inconspicuous area before using the cleaning paste. The Pink Stuff is mildly abrasive, so be cautious not to scratch your stainless steel finishes.

The Pink Stuff can be used to lessen and terminate stains on saucepans, barbecues, ceramic bathroom and kitchen tiles, glass, rust, sinks, uPVC (often used on window sills and frames), garden furniture, paintwork, stoves and stovetops, copper, and loads of other things. You can even clean your boat with The Pink Stuff.

“The Pink Stuff works really well on vertical surfaces like the side of your bathtub and shower walls where other abrasive powders might have a hard time working because it’s a paste,” says Laura Christian, founder of All Star Cleaning. “It’s great for removing hard water stains from glass and buildup from metal.”

If you’re not into the paste application, Stardrops also has The Pink Stuff spray and cream cleaners.

How We Tested It

As a shopping editor, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a jar of The Pink Stuff to try out at home. I have an arsenal of eco-friendly cleaning products that I love, but I’m always looking for new products to test. I used The Pink Stuff to scrub my sink, glass stovetop, and to bring life back to my burned copper pans.

Lots of users apply The Pink Stuff to their stainless steel appliances. I tested a small patch of my parents’ stainless steel stove and decided not to use it. It probably would have been fine, but it’s not my stove to scratch! “The product is mildly abrasive, so you need to keep that in mind and be careful using it on soft plastic surfaces or anything with a high shine like a stone countertop, as it will scratch these surfaces,” notes Christian.

On the first use, I was impressed with the thick consistency of The Pink Stuff, which made it easy to apply. Rinsing it off the flat stove surface was kind of annoying, but the results were obvious. Grease and dust from the stove knobs instantly lifted and I was left with a visibly shiny surface.

The Pink Stuff didn’t make my burned copper pots look brand new, but it removed some scorching. After cleaning, I could actually read the Cuisinart stamp on the bottom, something I hadn’t seen in years. I’m excited to use The Pink Stuff on newly scorched or burnt pots and pans, to keep them looking good.

I’ll definitely use up this jar of The Pink Stuff, and I might order the spray version to keep my stove sparkling. Another thing to consider getting to help clean your home is the Scrub Daddy sponge.
