The Avocado Eco Organic mattress topper is a latex topper available in a 2-inch, medium comfort and 3-inch plush feel. The medium topper is made of Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS)-certified organic latex, and the plush topper is made with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified Pure Talalay latex. It has a Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified organic cotton cover with a hidden underside zipper for easy removal. The topper and cover are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Made Safe certified. This Avocado mattress topper is also vegan-certified, as it’s made without wool.

Our tester, Spencer Kildare, is a side sleeper who appreciates extra support and pressure relief. He ordered the 3-inch Talalay latex topper, which is softer and more plush than the Dunlop latex used in the 2-inch topper. The plush Talalay topper is designed to contour and alleviate shoulder and hip pain, making it ideal for side and combination sleepers like Kildare.
The Avocado mattress topper arrived in a single box that Kildare could lift and move on his own. The topper itself was folded and wrapped in plastic. According to Kildare, it took less than five minutes to get this mattress topper out of the box and onto his bed. He did notice a factory smell, which he said was reminiscent of vanilla cake. Kildare adds that the smell isn’t bad, but the topper does need several days to off-gas.
Kildare placed the mattress topper on his 16-year-old mattress. “My mattress is very old and worn in. It’s probably not the best to sleep on, but I have gotten accustomed to it,” he explains. “My sleep quality isn’t the best, and I sometimes feel like I’m 60% to 90% rested.”
After sleeping on the Avocado mattress topper for five nights and a handful of mid-day naps, Kildare gave this mattress topper five stars. “My sleep quality improved, and I woke up either fully rested or almost fully rested,” he says. He also loved the overall quality and spongey nature of the foam filling. “It really has a cakey sort of feel, and it mushes when pressure is applied. It provided excellent support to my sides without applying excess pressure,” he explains.
While Kildare loved the comfort and support he experienced while sleeping on the Avocado mattress topper, he feels that there is some room for improvement. Kildare found that this mattress topper moved around a lot on his bed. He attributes this to the fact that the topper is slightly larger than his mattress, and it doesn’t have corner straps to hold it in place. “Straps! Somebody get this mattress topper some straps,” he quips. “This is a great topper, but those straps are important.” Rather than corner straps, this topper relies on well-fitted sheets to keep it in place, so you might need to pick up a snug set of organic cotton sheets.
